Hazel Green Cemetery, Etna Township, Section 33
Location on section 33, 3/4 miles northwest of Hazel Green, on dead-end road.From Iowa Falls go east out of town on Co. Hwy D15 or Rocksylvania Ave. At U Ave turn right go 3 1/2 miles at 155th Street turn right on this dead end road. The cemetery is about 1/4 mile on the left side of the road. It is a small country cemetery in a heavily wooded area and is very well maintained.
John Eggers, no date, son of H. & T. Eggers, was moved from the Eggers family cemeter located 1 1/2 miles north of Cleves. It is not know how many of the eggers family were buried there. Today only 1 Stone remains and it has been moved to the side of the road and the insrciption reads: M. Schoepflin, d. 17 Mar, 1868, 59y 10m 7d. This in included in the records for Hazel Green Cemetery.
There are two plaques for servicemen lost at sea:
1. Elliot, Samuel F: WWII, Iowa Falls, Ia. entered AAF 17 Sep 1943. Flew to Italy with the 485 th Bomber Group. To the 15th AIr Force Nov 11, 1944 as a nose gunner on a B 24, went down in the harbor of UIS off Yugoslavia returning from his 2nd mission over Austria.
2. Eiserman, K. Russel: F2c Son of Asa and Daisy Eiserman was born near Robertson, Ia. 31 May 1923. Enlisted in Us Navy 27 Aug 1942. Left New York 25 Jan 1943 as a passenger on the merchant ship SS Henry P Mallory bound for Iceland. It was torpedoed 7 Feb 1943 off the coast of Greenland. Severe weather conditions hindered rescue operations and Russel gave his life in the icy water of the North Atlantic.
