Chester Cemetery, Providence Township, Section 26

Located 32028 RR Ave at the corner of 320 th Street and RR Ave in Providence Twp -- about 4 miles west of Union on D65 to S Ave 1/2 mile south to 320th St 1/4 mile west to RR Ave, across from the Chester Church. The land was given in 1869 by William Hinshaw. The first burial seems to be that of William G Hadley, 9 month old son of Tempy and Henry Hadley. Thank You to Julia Lundy Braga for all the genealogical notes that she added from her own personal knowledge. Some of the stones read in 1967 are now gone. This cemetery is still in use in 1999 and is well maintained. 86N 20W Sec26NE

Gregwire, Alice Cockerham
I have a comment about one of the transcriptions in the Chester Cemetery (Providence Township) listing.  The person in question is listed as "Grigwire, Alice Cockerham" (1878-1943) and she is listed as having "no stone found."  I can solve that mystery for you very quickly.  Alice (rather Martha Alice) was my great-great grandmother.  I live just 20 minutes south of Union, so I've been to Chester a few times.  The reason why Alice's headstone isn't found is because she was searched for under the wrong name.  You see, John Grigwire (the listing just below hers) was her 2nd husband.  Her first husband was Sanford Cockerham (the listing just above hers).  She is buried next to Sanford.  There is a large marker stone with the surname "COCKERHAN" (misspelled--should be an M at the end).  To the right side is small marker with the name "Sanford M".  To the left is a small marker with the name "Alice."  This is where Alice is actually buried.
