Pioneer Cemetery

aka Stouts Cemetery
aka Cumberland Cemetery

Located at SW1/4 SE1/4 3-87-19 of Eldora Township.

Eldora is the nearest town. From the Iowa river bridge on the east edge of Eldora, travel east on Hwy. # 175 for 2 miles turn north, on X Ave. follow the curves for 1 mile. The cemetery is on 230th street at the intersection with X avenue.

On Sept. 8, 1852, Mr. F B STOUT deeded two and one-half acres of land in section 3 of Eldora Township to the Trustees of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Pine Creek. Once called the Stout Cemetery. The name was changed in memory of   Edward C. BUCKNER, the first man from Hardin Co. killed in the Civil War, died February 13, 1862, and a marker was erected in his memory.

March 21, 1999, of the 125 stones observed in 1974, seventeen are now gone. One new grave was added to the HENDERSON plot- Esther LANE d. 1976, this has been the last burial here to date.  This cemetery is fenced and well maintained. It is a Hardin County Pioneer Cemetey.
