Skunk Grove - This settlement is described quite fully in the table
its later name of Rose Grove. It should be pointed out the reason for
the name Skunk Grove.
It was originally named for the Skunk River which flows nearby. The
river was named by the Indians for the wild skunk onions, which grew
along its banks. Actually, Skunk Grove was located on the river.
When the Rose family moved the stagecoach stop to the top of the hill
east of the first location, the name was changed to Rose Grove. The
actual distance of the move would be only about an eighth of a mile east.
