Saratoga - Saratoga's history is fully described in these links
under the name New Saratoga, by which the community was also known. The
name Saratoga was given to the settlement first in honor of Saratoga,
New York, from which the early settlers came. Israel Woodard, a
resident, suggested that the name be changed to New Saratoga during a
settlement meeting at the school house. From that day it was called New
Saratoga.
It is interesting to note that during the 1980's some rural family
operated a business at their farm home just west of Highway 17 in that
area where Saratoga was located. The firm sold boots, buckles and saddle
gear. It was named Saratoga Boot and Buckle. A large sign advertising
their business was placed along the highway. By the mid 1990's the sign
disappeared and the business was closed.
