Paris - This settlement was laid out by Henry R. Martin in June of
1853. He surveyed the land for Joseph Halden, the land owner. The plat
was recorded on July 2, 1855. The intended community of just six blocks
and a public square was named for the capital of France, but it never
achieved the same greatness.
No lots were ever sold and no buildings were ever constructed. Paris was
located in SE Sec. 6-86-26, which is practically the same location as
Hook's Point. The town appeared on maps from 1856 until 1868. It was
purely a paper town built for speculation.
