I understand that my fathers' uncle, Ralph Sheridan Smith, was the oldest man in Reinbeck. I believe that he was 103 ( one hundred and three) years old when he died. I would like to try to verify oral history about his parents, my great-grand parents. Samuel George Smith is the name I have as the father of Ralph Smith; his mother was Johanna Von Cole. Samuel Smith served in the civil war, married Johanna in 1871, and homesteaded in Iowa. I am not sure if his homestead was in Grundy or Tama County, however, he lived most of his life in Reinbeck. This is why I'm checking out Grundy instead of Tama. I would appreciate any and all information

I am trying to find information on Deltlef Petersen who was my great grandfather and the father of my Grandmother Johanna Schmidt. He came from Germany in 1893 and settled on a farm of Fritz Strobehn S.W. of Reinbeck, Grundy County, Iowa. the farm would have been located in Tama, County, Iowa. Any info would be helpful as trying to find his parents names.

Are you looking for lost photos? Below you will find a message I received from a great lady who has found one.
I am near Spokane, Washington. Picked up my grand daughter in little town of Sprague. While waiting for her I looked at an antique shop. They have a photo about 8 by 10 of the D. E. Aukers Sr. family taken 1893 a Wellsburg, Iowa. I jotted the names down rather quickly as was late to get my granddaughter but this will be close. Dirk, Fred, Edmond, Simon, Maria, D. E. Aukes Sr., ?Reinder, Berth {oldest daughter}, {Grandpa Arthur Trepps mother}Mary "Maria", Margaret, Dalmuth, Grietze, John, Benjamin If you know of anyone from this family or if you want the address where the photo is, I can send it. She had it in a frame and was only asking $5.00. CONTACT:  Dorothy Giddings, Box 1955, Sprague Lake Resort Road, Sprague, Washington 99032 509-257-2044

Was wondering if you had any WELSH listing in Grundy? I have been looking just to the west in Hardin Co. My gggrandfather was born in Steamboat Rock, IA and his sister Nettie Welsh was born in Grundy in 1871. I think there parents John and Mary Welsh might be buried in Grundy. There children Nettie and John D. were left without parents at an early age. Don't have any info on their history in Grundy Co. Please advise thank you.

Searching for information about this family. Nicholas and Margaret Kuster were married March 14, 1867 in Allamakee County. They moved and stayed in Grundy County and then moved on again to Hardin County. I'm aware of three children but there could have been more. The three boys were Gustaf Adolpho b.1969, Henry Otto Frank Kuster b.1972,and Louie R Kuster b. March 10, 1977. Margaret Kuster's maiden name was Hauser and her parents were Juergen and Eva Hauser who settled in Allamakee County after arriving there from Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada in 1952.. There are a couple of errors on my first query. The dates of birth should all be in the 1800's - not the 1900's. Also, the Hausers immigrated to Iowa in the 1850's not the 1950's..

I have been trying to help my son-in-law and daughter trace his ancestry. They recently received data that indicates that members of his SHERMAN family helped to found Grundy County --- and later moved to the New Hartford, Butler County, area. Would you be able to tell me if there might be something about the SHERMAN family in any Grundy County histories, and if there is, how we might be able to obtain copies of that information, and what the cost would be. They do not have an Internet connection so I supply that. You can e-mail me at nan@netins.net

Seeking information on Margaret "Maggie" Reed McBain Lyons. She is the daughter of Edward and Ellen Whalen Reed of Lone Tree, and was probably born there. She married first, Donald McBain, born in Scotland in 1854, on January 18, 1878 in Marshall County. They lived on a farm outside of Dike for 25 years. Children burn to them were Mary, who married Frank L. Hargrove; Myra who married William Reisinger; Susie who married Bill; Agnes who died 9/22/1903 at age 15, and Josie who died at age 2. They also raised Gurney Schulttz. After Mr. McBain died in 1907, Maggie remarried at Mr. Lyons. We have traced four of Maggie's siblings, Josephine Francis Brandberg, Mary Ellen Kaiser, Susie Agnes Reed, and John Francis Reed treks to other states. We would love to find the descendants of Maggie.

I have been trying to find info on John D. Welsh 1867/1948 and his sister Nettie Welsh 1871/1961. Nettie's obit was in the Eldora paper and stated that she was born in Grundy Co. and was an orphan at an early age. She was raised in Eldora. I think her parents were named John Welsh and Marie Reiggle Welsh. I have looked at the 1870 census but no luck. I did find a John Welsh in Belle Plane in 1860's census.

Hello, I just received a copy of my grandmother's Birth Certificate. She was bon in Grundy County 1885. The place looks like Felix Loop (There are no listings for that on the Grundy County page). Are you familiar with it. Just wondering - also posting to the Iowa list. Any help appreciated.

My G-Grandfather's (James W. Gordon) obituary stated that even though he was a resident of Benton County, he "died at the home of his daughter (Mrs James Mason) in Rhinebeck, December 23, 1907". A request to the Grundy County Clerks office came back that no record was found. Is it possible that the record still might be found in the States Vital records? He had two families, the first by a Mary Ann Orr, with who he had 6 children. He sued her for divorce in IL. in the fall of 1865. In 1870 he married Susan Walters in IL. I have accounted for his daughters by his second marriage, and must assume that Mrs. Mason was a daughter by Mary Ann, but which I have no way of knowing at this time.

I have been looking for WELSH in Grundy. My ggrandfather John D Welsh was born in Steamboat Rock, in 1868. His sister Nettie Welsh was born in 1871 in Grundy. The children were raised by others in Eldora because of the early death of the parents. I think the parents lived in Grundy because of Nettie's birth there. I think their names were John and Mary Welsh.....any clues would be a great help....thank you
