~WWI Draft Registration Index~
In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men who were born between 1873 and 1900 registered for the draft. All men born between these years were required to register on one of three registration dates.
On registration days, in most communities, businesses and schools were closed. Volunteers processed the registrations usually at schools and voting places around the county. Information on the cards includes some or all of the following: Name, Residence, Date of Birth, Closest Relative, Exclusions, Brief Physical Descriptions, Occupations, Etc. Every Male born between the dates was required to register. However, this does not mean that they were actually inducted into service. If you would like a copy of your ancestors registration card, please email me at Carly Josephson. Or if you have a membership to www.ancestry.com, WWI and WWII draft registration cards as jpg files are on Ancestry site. |
