Stellung. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Mesa, Montecito, California. Private Mesa was killed in
the advance during the Argonne operations.

Killed October 16, 1918 at Argonne. Son of Mrs. Anna Herbel, Creston, Iowa. Private
Herbel was killed in the charge on Hill 288. A machine gun bullet; hit him in the head
and his death was instantaneous. He was with the regiment in Lorraine, Champagne,
Chateau Thierry and St. Mihiel. He was gassed in Lorraine and was in the hospital from
May 29th to June 3rd.
