John E. Farmer
Private Headquarters Company
#84777
Killed August 6, 1918 at Chateau Thierry. Son of Lillian Farmer, Essex, England. Private Farmer was killed while working as a part of a burial detail with Chaplain W. E. Robb. They were working at night near the town of Sergy to bury the men and were very close to the front line, when the German artillery opened fire upon them. The detail withdrew to a wheat field and a stray shell hit near, a fragment piercing his abdomen and a fragment in his back. He was given first aid, but died soon after.
