A Letter of Condolence. |

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McGee have received the following letter from the
captain of the company to which their son, Willard, belonged at the
time of his death at Camp Cody:

Fayette, Iowa, R.D. No. 2,
Dear
Sir and Madam:
It is with deep regret that we advised you of the
death of your son, Willard, which occurred at the Base Hospital of the
camp at 3:55 p.m., December 14, 1917. Death was due to pneumonia,
lobar, lower lobe, right.
Prior to his death, Willard proved
himself a man of excellent character whose death is not only deeply
regretted by the entire company, but by all of those who had an
opportunity to become acquainted with him.
His sacrifice, also
yours, has been a made, but it is my earnest prayer that this sacrifice
which of a necessity will be followed by many more, will not be in
vain, but on the contrary be fore the safeguard of freedom and
advancement of civilization which has been so zealously protected
during the past ages by those of right against those of might.
I
extend to you the sincerest sympathy and condolence on the part of the
men and officers of this company.
