Frances "Frank" M. Connell of North McGregor Iowa has just returned from enlistment, US Army WW One. Germany formally surrendered months earlier. Photo of course taken (July 26th, 1919) on the front porch of his parent's home, in what we now know as Marquette, name changed the following year, 1920. His mother & father are still living in the house. Frank would be 32 year of age, single yet.

North McGregor had been re-built after the flood of 1916, the railroad, sawmills & steamboats were running hard. The only other person Tim was able to identity is the little mop-haired kid in the bottom center. CJ Mason II, age 2 1/2 (Tim's father). He had recently lost his father, C.J. Mason, age, also 32. He was killed two months earlier in Mason City, Iowa.
