     John J. Ingalls (army serial No. 95497), corporal, 80th Company, 6th Regiment, United States Marine Corps. Wounded in the assault on machine gun positions in the Bois de Belleau, France, on June 6, 1918, he refused to be evacuated, but assisted in the evacuation of the wounded, thereby displaying great qualities of self-sacrifice and devotion to duty.

Residence at enlistment: Olin, Iowa (Jones co.)
