In March 1869, Mr. Howard purchased a farm, and built his home. He married his wife in the Locust Grove schoolhouse, on Christmas night, 1870.

Mr. Howard had also recalled the C. V. Haskins had a double log home located near where the schoolhouse was later built.

The two preachers who held services there were Reverend Peck of Union Grove, and Reverend Bird. Another early pioneer minister was Reverend Samuel Farlow. He walked through the country preaching. Once a month he held services at the Locust Grove schoolhouse.
