Lillian Vermilyea
Lillian E. Vermilyea  (William S. 7, Nathaniel Drake, Jr. 6, Nathaniel Drake 5, Philip 4, Peter 3, Isaac 2, Johannes 1) born June 2/27, 1891 at Brooklyn, New York, married August 31, 1912 at Hamburg, Iowa to William L. Conaway. Lillian died in 1960 at Sidney, Iowa.

William L. Conaway (husband of Lillian) was born May 21, 1889 in Ohio, died November 1974 at Sidney, Iowa. They are buried in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Iowa. Source Code #278.

Lillian was sent to Iowa on a orphan train, and taken in by Almond S. and Anna Harker of Sidney, Fremont County, Iowa.

Lillian was with a group of 17 children, from the Children's Aid Society sent to Sidney, Iowa on September 22, 1904. A Mr. Clarke describes some of the children in his journal, of Lillian he writes "Lillian Vermilyea was understood to come from the aristocracy.  She looked it. Had a stubborn will, but was a good girl. She was born June 2nd or 27th, 1891".

William died May 13, 1991 at Saline, Kansas. He is buried Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, KS. Leona Pearl Conaway is buried in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina KS.

Obituary:
Leona Pearl Conaway, 73, Salina died Friday, Sept. 6, 1991, at the Pinnacle Care Center. Mrs. Conaway was born Leona Pearl Crew, on Aug. 21, 1918, at Centerville, MO., she lived in Salina since 1950, moving from Missouri.   She was a homemaker and cooked for several businesses. Her husband, William, died May 13, 1991.

Survivors include a son, William Rich, of Oklahoma; and a daughter, Betty Sue Gregory, of Dayton, KY. A service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, at the Roselawn Memorial Park, the Rev. Terry Turner officiating.

Obituary:
William A. Conaway, 78, formerly of 1224 Windsor Drive, died Monday, May 13, 1991, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Wichita, KS.

Mr. Conaway was born March 19, 1913, at Fremont County, Iowa. He was a construction worker for Johnson Builders. Survivors include his wife, Leona P., of 1007 Johnstown; a son, Rick William, address unknown; and several daughters, whose names and addresses are unknown. A service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery, the Rev. Terry Turner officiating.
