Mary Ann Keran

Mary Ann Keran, daughter of Jacob and Mary Waltenberry was born at Mauston
,Wisconsin on April 22,1866 and passed away at her home near Bartlett on
February 8; at the age of 86.
She was one of Five children, all preceding her in death except one brother
James Waltenberry of Council Bluffs.

She was married 69 years ago to J.L. Keran of Sidney. To this union were
born three children, one child Perry dying in infancy.She also reared one
nephew, Ed Keran of Brewster, Washington, and assisted in rearing one niece,
Mrs. Floyd Forney of Thurman.

They lived two years in Kansas after their marriage, then moved to the
present home near Bartlett.

She became a member of the Christian church at Bartlett at an early age and
was always devout Christian, loyal neighbor an faithful friend.

She is survived by one son, Jasper; one daughter, Jessie Chaney: one brother
James Waltenberry; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held February 10 at the reeves funeral home with Rev.
George Durkee officiating. Pallbearers were Clarence Forney, Maurice King,
Will King, Charlie Wright, Floyd Forney and John King.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Marvin Peterson and Mrs. Alex Christianson. In
charge of flowers were Mrs.. Maurice King, Mrs. Dale Forney, Mrs. Emil
Hillhouse and Mrs. Lyle Hillhouse.

Uncle Lo Keran

Jacob Lonzo Keran, son of John and Mary Keran was born in Hardin Co.,Ohio in
the year 1861 and passed away at his home east of Bartlett, Iowa. August
5,1941. He came to Iowa at the age of ten years and had resided at his
present location for the past 54 years.

He was married to Mary Waltenberry and to this union were born two sons and
one daughter Mrs. Jessie Chaney of Bartlett and son Jasper also of Bartlett,
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also three sisters, Mrs. Joe
Pierce, Mrs. Rose Pierce and Mrs. Emma Forney.

He was baptized into the Christian Church at Bartlett August 30,1896 to
which faith the has remained steadfast and until recent years when health
failed him, he was an ardent worker in the church and rejoiced in telling
others of the Gospel of Christ. He had implicit confidence in the word of
God. Uncle Lo, as he was familiarly known to his neighbors and friends will
be keenly missed in the community by all who know him, as many went to him
for council and guidance in both spiritual and temporal matters.

Funeral services were held at the King's church Thursday afternoon
(Aug.7,1941) at 2: o'clock, in charge of Charles Aitken. Music was
furnished by the Rosentrater Quartette, Casket bearers were; Charles Wright,
Grover Isom, William King ,Frank King, C.F. Forney, and Floyd Forney.
Interment was in the Thurman cemetery

Sarah Schooley

October 19,1927

Sarah Jane Keran was born in Ogaze Co. Ohio, January 22,1854 and departed
this life October 27,1927 at the age 73 years, 9 months and 10 days.

She was united in marriage to O.S. Schooley now deceased,August 13,1874. to
this union three children were born, two sons and one daughter, J.E.
Schooley of McPaul, Mrs. J.W. Padgett of Turman, and J.H. Schooley of
Bartlett.

She leaves to mourn her loss besides her three children, ten grandchildren,
three sisters, Mrs. J.W. Pierce, Mrs. J.S. Pierce and Mrs. G.W. Forney and a
brother J.L.Keran.

She was baptized into the holiness Church thirty-one years ago and from that
faith she never wavered until God called her home.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday (Oct. 11,1927) by Rev. Brandt of
Tabor. Singing was furnished by the Howard sisters. Interment was made in
the Thurman Cemetery.

Laura Hillhouse

Mrs. Laura Hillhouse

Mrs Laura Hillhouse died Saturday at her home in Green Hollow Southwest of
Tabor, at the age of 43 years. Her death is peculiarly sad on account of
the circumstances in which the father and several motherless children are
left.

The house vurned down about a year ago, since then the family have lived in
a "dug out", The cause of her death was pneumonia. Interment was made at
Thurman.

Obituary
Laura Elizabeth Keran ws born in Marshall Co.,Illinois March 21,1867;
departed this life December 4,1909. She was united in marriage to James
Hillhouse in June 1883 and to this union eight children were born of whom
four are living Ray 21 years, Carrie 17 years, Alice 13 years, Lawrence 9
years. Besides these she leaves a husband, parents, one brother and five
sisters to mourn her loss. She obeyed the Gospel in the ordinance of the
Latter Day Saints church May 4,1904.

Carry Hillhouse

Funeral services for Carry Earl Hillhouse were held Saturday (Oct.3,1964)
at 2:P.M. at the King's church with Rev. Irving Mitchell officiating.

Mrs. Donald Douglass was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Darrell Vanatta;
Pallbeareres were Odel Kephart, Bud Lorimor, Newell Lorimor, John Howery,
Maurice King and Mervin Foster. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Byrle Pierce
and Mrs Gerald Ball. Mrs Thelma Butler had charge of the memorial book.

Interment was in the Thurman cemetery with Reeves-Dow funeral home in
charge.

Carry Earl Hillhouse was the son of James and Laura Hillhouse. He was born
in Fremont county on April 18,1892. His childhood was spent in Bartlett and
Thurman community. He attended King's school, and was called into the army
in April 1918 and was honorably discharged the same year.

He attended King's church all his life.

Carry Earl passed away on Sept.30,1964 at the age of 72 at the University
Hospital at Iowa City where he had been for 11 weeks. He had been in poor
health the past year.

He leaves to mourn his passing one brother, Lawrence, with whom he always
lived, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Weston,of Nebraska City, NE and a host of
nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Emaline Forney

Mary Emaline Forney

Mrs. Mary Emaline Forney daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Keran was born April
10,1873 at Brighton, Washington County, Iowa and passed away January 22 at
the age of 79.

She was one of a family of eight children and all others preceded her in
death. July 29,1891 she was united in marriage to Washington Forney at the
bride's home with Joseph Flair Justice of peace officiating. There
daughters were born to them, Mrs. Flora Stanley and Mrs. Will Kimsey of
Thurman, Miss Sylvia Forney who died at the age of 16 years. Besides the two
daughters, she leaves eight grandchildren thirteen great-grandchildren and
many other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday (January 25,1953) at the Thurman Methodist
church with Rev. R.A. McManus in charge. Interment was in the Thurman
cemetery, Reeves Funeral Home of Tabor in charge.

Ellen Study

Mrs. Ellen Study died at her home Thursday evening December 23 at 9:
o'clock. she had done her washing and was hanging up clothes when seized
with apoplexy.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 P.M. at the Kings church house
and were conducted by Elder George Suface. Interment was made in the
Thurman cemetery. she was the mother of eight children, John, Mrs. Lizzie
Kimsey, Mrs. Alta Kephart, Bud, Marion , Bane, Willis and Ezra, all living
here near their mother. Her husband has been dead about twenty years.

She leaves her father John Kearns (Keran), and several brothers, and sisters

Death of Mrs. Wm. Kearns

Mrs. Kearns, the beloved wife of Mr. Will Kearns, living near the Wildwood
school house west of Tabor, died Friday evening, July 24th, after an
illness of several weeks. Her death was due to child-bed fever,
superinducing paralysis. Besides her husband three small children are left
to mourn. The funeral was held at the hom Saturday afternoon, being
conducted by Elder Charles Aitken. The large concourse of friends who
escorted the remains to their last resting place in the Tabor cemetery
attested in part the universal respect and love which they had for her.


Obituary

Julia Hasty was born July 4,1878 in Green county, Iowa, where she lived
until seven years of age. She came with her mother and two brothers to
Fremont County , Iowa in 1885, where she lived the remainder of her life.
She united with the Christian church when 14 years of age and was a faithful
member until her death. She was united in marriage January 1896 to Wm. S.
Kearns, To this union five children were born , three of whom are left to
mourn the absence of a kind and devoted mother. With remarkable fortitude
she patiently bore her suffering and was ready to accept the Master's call .
Her life's work is done.
