Obituary of Mrs. Isaac (Eliza Boettner) Martin---The Atchison County Mail, August 19, 1938

Atchison county relatives were advised Tuesday of the death, that day, at Wellington, Kans., of Mrs. Isaac Martin, a former long time resident of the Grange Hall community of Atchison county.  Her death was sudden, as she had not been ill.  She had reached the ripe age of eighty-one years.

The remains were returned to Watson and the funeral service set for Thursday afternoon at Grange Hall, the Rev. Loren S Goings conducting the service.  Interment was at Grange Hall, near the old home of the Martin family.

Eliza Boettner was born January 27th, 1857, at Linden, this county. She was married to Isaac Martin in her early womanhood.  He passed away June 5th, 1916.  Eight children were born to this union, all of whom survive.  They are H.L. Martin and Mrs. Minnie Hayes of Watson; Isaac Martin of Pittsburg, Kans.; Mack and Halbert Martin, Mrs. Anna Hopkins, Mrs Brady Taylor and Margaret Martin of Wellington, Kans.

Mrs. Martin is survived also by 16 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and four brothers, Jacob, John and Will Boettner of this county and Ed. Boettner of Nebraska.

The deceased became a member of the Linden Christian church many years ago.

The Martin home in Grange Hall district was a center of the real old-fashioned hospitality during the many years the family lived there.  Everyone was welcome, and guests were treated like royalty.  During political campaigns both Republicans and Democratic candidates made it a point to reach the Martin home in time for supper when they had speaking dates at Grange Hall--and , regardless of political affiliation, all were treated with equal consideration and enjoyed suppers that could not be surpassed.  The same kindly treatment was accorded the casual visitor.
