-- Dr. E. F. Cowger".--Dr. E. F. Cowger of Riverton, who has been in feeble health for several years past, passed away at his home Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Cowger was born in Rushville, Indiana, August 30, 1843 and moved to Iowa in 1853, and located in Jefferson county. He was educated in Fairfield college. He served through the Civil War, participating in several battles and was wounded at Prairie Grove. He began the practice of medicine at Abingdon, Illinois but moved to Riverton in 1873. During his forty years residence in Fremont county he was prominent in medical circles, until feeble health caused him to relinquish most of his practice in recent years. He was elected to office in Fremont county on the Greenback ticket and later was prominent in the Peoples party movement and was head of officer for the Patrons of Husbandry. He has always enjoyed the confidence and respect of his associates and he leaves numerous friends, who join with his children in mourning his departure.
Funeral services were held Friday at 3:30, conducted under the Masonic ritual, the deceased having been a member of that order for many years.

"Hamburg News".--The Overland Trail, a new highway that is to cross Iowa from Spirit Lake on the north to Hamburg on the south, is being officially marked this week by President C. H. Clevis and Secretary C. E. Bradley. Never before has an automobile highway met with such instantaneous success and enthusiastic support that this one has. Only a few months ago a meeting was held in Atlantic by representatives of towns across the state from Spirit Lake to Hamburg. The meeting was well attended from practically all the larger towns and villages.
