Kimber Raymond Smith was born in Riverton in 1886, and died in Nebraska City in 1960. (In later years, he and his wife, Rose, lived with their daughter Jo Whitten in Nebraska City.) Kimber's parents were William Henry Smith (1850-1929) and Caroline Akines (1863-1922).

Rose Mae Cowles was born in Riverton in 1888, and died in Broken Bow, NE in 1974. Her parents were James Harvey Cowles (1865-1947) and Martha "Mattie" Chaney (1865-1937), both lifelong Riverton residents.

Kimber and Rose were married in Sidney in 1909. They had 6 children: Walt, Carl, Gerald, Dorothy, Lea and Jo.
