Gerald Dwight Smith was born in a farm house near Riverton in 1910 to Kimber Smith and Rose (Cowles) Smith. He died in 1993 and is buried in Utterback Cemetery near Riverton. He started school in Nebraska, but finished at Hamburg High School. He married Velma Richardson (1917-2006) in 1935 in Hamburg. He spent his entire life in the Hamburg area farming and doing carpentry work.
