William Lee Morgan and Anna Mary Poling

William Lee Morgan and Anna Mary Poling

William Lee Morgan was born in Sidney, Iowa in June 1874. He was the youngest son of William Webber Morgan and Hannah J. Rhinehart. William Lee grew up in Sidney. When he was grown, he started working for the railroad. There he met Anna Mary Poling and they were married in Nebraska City, Nebraska. William's job on the railroad eventually took them to Ashland, Oregon, and then down to San Diego.

William Lee Morgan’s mother, Hannah Rhinehart, died in Sidney in 1880, when William Lee was only 6. Hannah was buried in the Sidney Cemetery.

Several decades later, William Webber Morgan moved from Sidney, at a very old age, to live with William Lee’s family in southern California, so they could care for him. The last few months of his life, William Webber Morgan was admitted to the Sawtelle Soldier’s Home in Los Angeles County, where he died in 1916. William Lee Morgan worked as a foreman on the grounds crew of Balboa Park in San Diego later in life. He died in May 1938 in San Diego, where his wife Anna Poling Morgan continued to live until her death in April 1969.
