Redd Cemetery
(Sidney Township)
The Redd cemetery is located on the eastern side of the former Pleasant Grove settlement, which was in the present-day Sidney Township.
It derived its name from Garrison Berry Redd, who was born September 30, 1815, and died January 17, 1873. It sits on top of the bluffs overlooking the Nishnabotna Valley.
The cemetery is on part of the land which G. B. Redd obtained from the United States Government and was recorded in land warrant No. 75704 on May 6, 1853.
Another section of the cemetery was obtained from Benjamin F. Rector. Mr. Rector lost his life as a major in the Civil war, but is buried in Sidney and not the Redd cemetery.
Many descendants of Garrison Berry Redd still live in Fremont County. This cemetery is sometimes referred to as the “King Cemetery”.
