Williams, Lizzie S. - HR #27122; address, Alexander, Iowa; aged 70 years, is the widow of Henry E. Williams, who served as a first lieutenant and captain in Company B, Thirty-first Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, from August 6, 1862 to June 27, 1865 (2 years 10 months 21 days). Soldier was pensioned at $40 per month under special act; was formerly pensioned under the act of July 14, 1862, at $24 per month for gunshot wound of right lung. Applicant is pensioned under the acts of June 27, 1890, and April 19, 1908, at $12 per month. Soldier and applicant were married April 13, 1881. Soldier died July 10, 1902. Soldier's prior wife died July 4, 1879. Medical testimony is that applicant , by reason of her age and general physical condition, is not able to earn a living. Applicant's only means of support is her pension. An increase to $20 per month is recommended.
