for Franklin County Researchers

Although every attempt has been made to be accurate, all of the information given on this page should be confirmed by the researcher.

Franklin County was created from Chickasaw County in 1851 but not organized until 1855. Researchers should check Chickasaw and Hardin counties for earlier records.

Franklin County marriage records date from 1855.

Iowans were asked to register births and deaths beginning in 1880,but registration did not become mandatory until 1921. Consequently, between 1880-1921 the records are incomplete, particularly in the earlier years.
