                                                                           The Congregational Church of Popejoy

 

This Church was built in 1892, and used as a church until 1917. Later, it was used as a primary room for the schools until 1939.

The Articles of Incorporation are dated Fenruary 13, 1896, and are signed by C. E. Dodd, W. H. Elliot, William Thorp, J. E. Carr and J. H. Little.

The First Board of Trustees were: J. H. Little, W. H. Elliot, C. E. Dodd, G. A. Thorp, and A. W. Stewart.

Mrs. Allice Decker was an early worker in the church. She started Flossie Stewart (Drury) at the age of 10 to playing the organ for Sunday School, and a year or so later Flossie was playing for church services.

Some of the pastors who served this church were: Rev. Skull, Rev. Couchman, Rev. Garretson and Rev. McGlashing. Later on, Professor Harris from Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls conducted church services in 1915 and 1916, each Sunday.

Rev. Wyatt was one of the first ministers of this church, filling the pulpit in 1894.
