  • The cemetery is located ½ mile south of the village of Chapin on Olive Ave. (aka County S43). The New Chapin cemetery was established in 1895 on a 2 acre plot of land sold by Adam Banker for $250 on April 13, 1895 to the Ross twp. trustees. In the spring of 1912, lots were staked and mounted to 6 inches high. On March 2, 1915 the cemetery name was changed to Wayside. Lots at that time cost $5.00.
  • Way Side Cemetery Society
    On March 5, 1912 a meeting was held in the E.O. Esslinger home for purposes of forming a New Chapin Cemetery Society. Mrs. L.D. Knesel served as chairman and Carrie Banker as secretary. Officers elected at that meeting were, Mrs. Esslinger, president; Mrs. G.A. Mayer, vice-pres.; Mrs. Banker, sect'y & Mrs. Knesel, treas.
