SCHIEBEL came to Iowa from Stark County, Illinois with his wife, Rosa, and family in 1900. They traveled by train to Iowa and were hit by a blizzard while still in Illinois. The train was carrying cattle which had to be unloaded and fed. John settled 7 miles north of Marshalltown, Iowa in Marshall County. John's sister, Mary, Mrs. David SPRINGER, was already living in the area. Three of John's sons (Bert, Arthur, & John W.) built homes & farmed within a mile of each other in Marshall co. on what is now (2003) Prairie Ave., located between Conrad & Liscomb. Fred, another son, farmed further south in Marshall co in Taylor Twp. , near John C.'s farm.
