Genealogical Society, cemetery records and personal visits (Chillicothe and Myrick), Johnson Funeral Home records, newspaper obituaries, private family records, family members, all of which are obtained in Ottumwa in Wapello Co., Albia in Monroe Co., and Bloomfield in Davis Co., Iowa. As well as the courthouse and public library in Van Buren Co., Iowa, along with records at Iowa Genealogical Society and Iowa State Archives and Genealogy, both in Des Moines, and of course, the genealogical websites on the Internet. Also, the Dept. of Public Health in Des Moines if necessary. But the biggest contributor of this Price family information came from my great-grandmother, Ethel (Hartley) Price (1900-1999). (P.S. you may notice John Price was a lot older than his wife Margaret. He was 50 years old and Margaret, just 22 years old, at the time of their marriage, which is why I suspect he may have been married once before back in Posey County, Indiana. If so, his first wife may have died there before he moved along with his parents and at least 4 brothers and one sister to Van Buren County, Iowa around 1845. John purchased land from the federal goverment in Van Buren and then later in Davis County. I have seen his Davis County land deed at the courthouse in Bloomfield. From my research, I think Frederick Price and his wife Rachel probably first moved to Shelby County, Kentucky, from Virginia. Then they moved to Posey County, Indiana. Then later on, they moved with their children to Van Buren County, Iowa and afterwards to Davis County, Iowa, to settle in Soap Creek Township. For sure both Rachel Price and her unmarried daughter Felicity are found to be buried in Harbour Cemetery in Soap Creek Twp, Davis Co., Iowa, but I have not found Frederick Price's grave yet. John Price obviously later moved to Wapello County, Iowa,(but he still owned land in Davis County at the time of his death) but at least two brothers apparently moved to Wapello County: Peter Price and Jacob Price. But one brother, also named Frederick Price, seemed to spend the rest of his life in Davis County. I am not sure but Moses Price probably was another brother.) **Margaret Price's 2nd husband, William A. Hendricks, and Caroline Price's husband, Joseph Albert Hendricks, were related to each other: father and son. Therefore, Margaret's stepson was also her son-in-law. Joseph A. Hendricks' mother was Hariette (Odenbaugh) Hendricks, 1st wife of William, who died some years before William married Margaret. William and Hariette are both buried at Myrick Cemetery as are John Price and Margaret Price Hendricks. **Daniel Price's marriage to Sophia Deevers ended in divorce sometime before 1930 (and they had NO CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN). But Sophia remained connected to his family because his niece, Lulu Hendricks (daughter of Joseph and Caroline), was married to Sophia's younger son from her 1st marriage, Cleveland Deevers. **Cyrus Price was known by this family nickname of "Bill," but census records sometimes spelled his name as Wilford or Willie or William. Also, he was his wife Ethel's 1st cousin once removed because he and her father, James Elmer Hartley, were 1st cousins. Cyrus and "Elmer" were the grandsons of Daniel and Caroline (Medlem) Judson. **Daniel Price and Caroline Hendricks were named after their maternal grandparents, Daniel and Caroline Judson, while Cyrus Wilford Price was named after their two maternal uncles, Cyrus Judson and Wilford Judson. ************************************************** Copyright © 2004 by Roxie.
