MICAJAH LIPPINCOTT ELDRIDGE, the youngest son of Duncan Campbell and Rebecca Lippincott Eldridge, was born in Davenport on 22 August 1845. He began working at age 18 in the Davenport Post Office where his brother Charles H. Eldridge was Postmaster, and his father, Duncan, Davenport's 2nd postmaster, now served as clerk.

In April 1864, Charles resigned. He and Micajah began a real estate and insurance business, advertised in the Davenport City Directory as: Eldridge & Bros. (C.H.E. and M .L.E) land, real estate, insurance, and collection agents; money, real estate and exchange brokers; notaries public; Abstracts of Titles made at short notice; office 38 Brady."

In 1874, still in insurance and real estate, Micajah began a weekly newspaper devoted to working men, the "Times." He sold the newspaper after successfully publishing it for 2 years.
In 1880, Charles retired, and his half-brother, Jacob Mullen, joined the Eldridge Bros. business with Micajah.

On 17 October 1865, Pastor James Challen of the Christian Church married Micajah and Magdalen(i)a L. Berry in Davenport. "Maggie" was born 11 September 1844 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. In 1850 (census) Maggie was a child living with her widowed mother, Sarah. Her father's name is not known. In 1860 she was living with her grandmother, Sarah Lingle, in Rock Island, Illinois. Micajah and Magdalena Eldridge divorced in 1893. Maggie resumed the use of Berry. She died on her birthday 11 September 1908 in Davenport and is buried on the Eldridge lot in Davenport's Oakdale Memorial Gardens.

Micajah married Hannah Fowler Earle on 26 September 1901 in Davenport’s Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She was born 3 April 1839 in Whitesboro, Oneida County, NY to Raphael and Hannah Bejord Fowler. She came to Davenport with her family in 1857 and married George B. Earle, a grain dealer, in 1858 in Davenport.

After their marriage, Micajah and Hannah lived in her home, “Chattaqua Point,” which was along the river on 8th St. in Bettendorf, IA. Hannah Earle Eldridge died in her home 28 March 1912, and was buried in Oakdale Memorial Gardens with George and daughter, Mrs. Stella M. Braddon.
Micajah died 17 August 1925 in Davenport. He was cremated and a stone was placed in his memory in Oakdale.
