Documentation and Sources:

Documentation for William Dowd:

He is listed in his father's Revolutionary War Pension File as a son, with his age (no dates)
William's own Civil War Pension file, applied for by his wife Martha:
1) He served in Company H, 37th Regiment of Iowa Infantry Volunteers
2) He died at Glasgow, Jefferson county, Iowa on November 22, 1865, of disease he acquired
while in the service.
3) They were married July 25, 1826 in Athens county, Ohio. Two of her brothers made affidavids
as witnesses to the marriage. Her parents also made affidavids as witnesses for the marriage.
Other information:
His gravestone is in a bad state, but pictures of it survive thatlist his birth year as 1805
(but I have only seen the date I have given with a birth year of 1806). The stone is listed
in the Iowa Cemetery records and I have personally gone to Mt. Zion cemetery and observed the stone.

Martha (WOODARD) DOWD:
Whatever is known of her comes from the Pension file she made on her husband. Her parents are
buried in Morris cemetery, Hocking county, Ohio with the years of their deaths and the exact age
they died. Birthdates can be figured from that. Martha disappears from the records after the
1885 Iowa State Census. She had been living with her son, David L., and his family. I have yet
to find where she is buried or when she died.

Nathan DOWD: He is my great great grandfather. His dates of birth and death are on his headstone,
located in Fogartyville cemetery, Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida. I have observed and photographed
the stone. His obituary contains his wife's maiden name and also the fact that they moved to Nebraska
in 1886. I have not been able to find anything on the death of Laura (MATHENA) DOWD. but she is
assumed to have died in Holt county, Nebraska before Nathan moved to Florida about 1904 as he came
alone. His marriage record can be found in Wapello county, Iowa.

William E DOWD: Dates of birth and death on tombstone. I have seen the stone. It is also listed in
the WPA tombstone project. His wife's maiden name is listed in a marriage record for her daughter,
Viola. The record is located in Jefferson county, Iowa. Also Martha's tombstone is located in
Keokuk county, Iowa. I have seen the stone (it is an obelisk that has come off its base and shared
with son Levi and daughter Rosa) and the stone lists her dates. William's subsequent marriages
to Eliza Birch and Rebecca Wright are listed in Jefferson county, Iowa.

Alexander DOWD: His information comes from his death certificate and his wife's information is
from her death certificate.

David L. DOWD: Marriage listed in Jefferson County, Iowa marriage book.
Rest of information is from state census and reinlistment after the Civil War.
