OBITUARY: In the death of Mrs. Sarah A. Bunker which occurred last Sunday
morning passed one of the first of the pioneer women settlers of Cedar County.
She had arrived at the age of 87 years, 11 months and --- days, when called by
death. Her illness due principally to the infirmities natural to age had been
of long duration and was not wholly unexpected.

Mrs. Bunker was a daughter of J.K. Snyder who was among the first pioneers
who came to Tipton. She was born in Philadelphia, reared in Harrison county,
Indiana, coming to Iowa with her parents in 1838, this county was her home ever
since with the exception of a brief period when she lived with her husband on a
farm near Mt. Vernon.

During the course of her long and blameless life she won the friendship and
respect of all who knew her and leaves behind her the cherished memory of a
good mother and a good woman.

Her husband preceded her in death passing away in 1880. A few years later she
removed from the Fairfield township farm to Tipton where her home was since
made with her daughters. She is survived by her daughters Mrs. Maria Gunsolus,
Mrs. Ada Miller, Mrs. Mary Hunter, Mrs. Emma Risinger, and Mrs. Ella Garrett.
One daughter, Mrs. Ida Wasser, is deceased. Her sons Joseph and M.F. also
survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church by
Rev. J.C. Christie. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery.

Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Ada Miller,
Mrs. Emma Risinger, Mrs. Ella Garrett, Dr. and Mrs. Harkness, Wm. Snyder and
son, W.E. Shardaer, and Chas. Gillett. (Tipton Advertiser, 14 July 1910, page
