Discovering Your Family Story

Maybe you have heard an old family tale that you’ve always wondered about. Or perhaps, you just want some answers to questions you have about your ancestors. You might want to put together an ancestor chart or compile a family history booklet for your children. These things may not be as difficult to complete as you might imagine and you could be surprised at how exciting the journey can be. Get started on that journey today with a little assistance.

 Oelwein Public Library will be offering a Genealogy Workshop

Saturday October 13th from 10:00 - 2:30

 The workshop has been designed to be helpful for the beginner as well as more experienced genealogists. Some areas to be covered include;

  • The basics of documentation and how records can be located.
  • Finding genealogical information and checking it for accuracy.
  • How can we turn it into an interesting story?
  • Using the State and Federal census records to jump start our research

 We will take a 30 minute break for lunch around noon. Bring a brown bag lunch of your choice if you desire to eat at location.
