The Brugjeld--Peterson Family Farmstead, also known as Peterson Point Historical Farmstead, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 6, 2000. It is located at 2349 450th Avenue, Wallingford. Buildings include a log house built in 1870, a barn, blacksmith shop, cook/wash house, cob shed, wood shed, chicken coop, hog house, sheep barn, and corn crib. One wall in the living room has been exposed to show the 14 to 16 inch wide logs used by Peder Nielsen Brugjeld and his son, Peter Peterson, Jr., felled from their land to build the two-story home in 1870.
Peder Brugjeld and his wife, Gjertrud, with six children left the Brugjeld farm near Balestrand, Norway on the sailing ship, "Dorothea" for America in 1848. The family lived in Dane county, WI before migrating to Emmet County. Four generations of the Peterson family lived on the farmstead until Maynard Peterson, great grandson of Peder Brugjeld, deeded the property to Emmet County in 1996.
