ANTHONY PFOHL IS CLAIMED BY DEATH
Highly respected resident of Holy Cross, victim of paralysis, Anthony Pfohl,
age 82, died at his home. His death resulted from a paralytic stroke he suffered
three years ago and from which he has been ailing since.

The deceased was born in Alsace Lorraine, January 1, 1835, and came with his
parents to this country in 1846, settling in Dubuque. The same year the family removed
to Sherrill on a farm. For three years Mr. Pfohl worked on the river but gave that
up to engage in farming in which he was most successful. He was united in marriage
to Catherine Ferring in 1857. Her death occurred eight years ago, September 14, 1907,
when she was 70. Of the seven children born to their union, the following survive:
Mrs. Peter Hoffman, Dyersville; Mrs. N. J. Loes and A. Pfohl of Dubuque and Peter of
Holy Cross. The children who preceded their father in death were: Mrs. Peter Maiers,
Mrs. N.W. Schmitt, and Mrs. John Vorwald of Holy Cross. Two brothers, Joseph of
Dubuque and George of Sherrill, and one sister, Mrs. Duster of Dubuque, survive.

He is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery near his wife.
