In 1880 Census, still living in Memomonie as a foreman in a steam mill with Henrietta and Fred along with an adopted son Herman born about 1861 in Germany. Listed in 1888-1890 Directory as a machinist at 1115 Lombard, Seattle. Applied for pension on 24 Aug 1897 in Washington state. In 1900 Census living in Martin Creek, King County, Washington, widowed and in 1920 Census living in Seattle, King County, Washington with wife Susan born about 1833. He died January 21, 1921 at Seattle, King County, Washington, burial place unknown.

Obituary
Henry, William R. The Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of Rebellion has him as enlisting in the Iowa Sioux City Cavalry and mustering out on September 25, 1861. Another undocumented source has him being rejected September 25, 1861, by the Mustering Officer. It is quite possible this is the same William R. Henry who enlisted on July 26, 1862 as an officer in Company E, Iowa 23rd Infantry Regiment.
