Hello,
I' m trying to find my two third-cousins.
I had found them in 1905 census, in the 1910 census they don't
appear may be
because they had married.
Their names before marriage:
1. Netta Niederman (maybe Neuderman or other spelling) born
3/1877 Romania
or Russia
2. Rose Niederman " " " born
6/1879
Their parents were Samuel & Anna (Emma)
Lived in DesMoines
If you can find any records according Netta & Rose it will be
great.
Thank you,

grandfather.

I am interested in the Zieber and Newkirk families of Missouri and
Des Moines, Iowa. I know that members of the Newkirk family are buried
in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Lee twp. In particular Winfield Scott
Newkirk died 17 April 1930. Sarah Newkirk may have died 19 February 1930
or in 1929. Also Willie A Newkirk died 13 April 1919. I would
particularly like to get copies of obits for any of these or other
related Newkirks and pictures of their gravestones.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

James THOMAS & wife Anna or Hanna both born in Wales.
In 1850 Census James and Hannah lived in Franklin township with their
family which included Mary, Margaret, Henry, Harriet. It was thought
that there were two more children, Sarah and a Thomas but we can't find
a record for them.
On the 1860 Census of Franklin TWP James is not listed but rest of
family is.
Was there an 1856 census of Des Moines County?
If someone lived in Franklin TWP which cemetery would it be likely that
they would be buried in. Or is Franklin TWP a part of the city of
Burlington.
Sorry to make this so long but needed it all to explain what I am
looking for. The place and perhaps the date of James death. There
might be other family members buried in the same plot or close by. Any
help greatly appreciated.

Once the information comes in, I expect
the site to be more and more beneficial to family historians and
genealogists (You can see that with the information I was able to
get for Davenport's Assumption High School and Saint Ambrose

about their hero than I had ever expected.). I was able to contact
Cleo Whorton's niece based on information she provided on another
genealogy web site. Yesterday, someone told me of a nephew named
after Ned Oscar Hunger. So, yes I do see genealogists and family
historians might find this site useful. Therefore, please feel free
to post my web site on the Des Moines County GenWeb site.

Hi Richard, just a suggestion:
If you find information that genealogists might find interesting you
can get
wider exposure by giving me permission to post the information to my

I have a military project on that website.

For valued listers who do not know, we started a tombstone project for
DesMoines County Iowa in 1998 and have been posting transcribed records of
burials in this county since then, BUT we still have a long ways to go to
have a complete reference online of every cemetery in this county.
As a result of reading Robert's post below it reminded me that we have a
church section on this website that dates back to 1996. There has not been
much information posted to that file. A pastor in Reno Nevada provided some
church records for some German churches (Lutheran as I recal) in this county
which were posted to the Des Moines, IA website.
I invite everyone to pitch in and add to the church and the cemetery
records. And don't forget old photos. They have some genealogical value and
can often help researchers, BUT visitors just plain enjoy looking at old
photos. Photos of chapels or graveyards, or of monument transcriptions, when
received will all be added to the appropriate cemetery file.
Thank you all for your support of local genealogy on the internet. I love
what I do.

Subject: [DES MOINES COUNTY] Old Stone Church/Cemetery near Sperry
Hi,
I visited the site many years ago (probably about 1976-1978) and took
a picture of the old stone church. I don't remember the details but
remember that I was able to go inside, but failed to take any pictures of
the interior. I do have a much older photo of the church with a large
group of people in front of it, taken in (I think) 1907. We paid to have
the records of the church microfilmed, and have a copy of the film, as
well as the association of which the church was a part. From this film, I
have transcribed the names of the members and when they joined, and
entered it into a database. The church was organized in 1840, the
building was erected in 1847, as your website page shows. I met the lady
who got it registered on the National Register of Historic Places.
I wonder if the church building is still standing and completely
intact. I suppose by now it would have needed to be reshingled since I
saw it last. Have had some people inquiring about going to see it in the
past two or three weeks, whose ancestors were members there.

Iowa did not keep records that far back. Between my mother and ,I there as
been a 25 year+ search for the marriage of my great-grand parents. The only
thing we could find was a record from their Iowa minister to the new one in
Oklahoma stating that they were a couple and in good standing with the church.
They were married in 1871 in Washington County, IA. There is a CD that is
selling on EBay, and I contacted someone who purchased one and he told me
that the information for my family is on the CD but there is no primary source.
I would suggest attempting to find the church in Iowa and focusing in that
direction.

15. The Danbury Review says concerning him: "The deceased was born in
King's
county, Ireland, in 1849, and came to this country when a boy. He spent
some
time in the west in the earlier days and his wife died at Laramie, Wyo.
in
1876. From there he went to Missouri and from there to this county in
1882
and located in Morgan township near the Midway postoffice where he owned
valuable farm property at the time of his death. About fifteen years ago
he
moved to a farm adjoining the town of Danbury where he purchased another
fine tract of land. About a year ago his health began to fail and since
that
time he has been cared for by his only child, John L. Guinan of Sioux

The deceased was a man of rugged character, honest and upright in all

I am Calvin Huffman and I am looking for information about my great
great grandfather, Jesse Huffman.
I need to find a death date and any
other information for Jesse. I want to come to Burlington to check records.
What type of material is in the library and or court house that might be
helpful to me? What else can I do? How can I find some of
this information? My funds are limited and I would like to make my trip
fruitful. If you could lead me in the right direction I would
appreciate it.
I found information on the internet that states Jesse married Margaret
Hartman Jan. 27 1848. He , Margaret & their children are
in the 1856 Iowa census and the 1860, 1870,federal census. Margaret
died in 1872 and is buried in the North Walker Cemetery in Des Moines
County. The 1880 census shows Jesse married to a Harriet
(Webster). These census shows that Jesse was born in North
Carolina and an Elizabeth (Eliza) Huffman, probably Jesse's mother, lived
with them.
Is there anyway I can trace Jesse back to North Carolina. There are
no records that I can find that tell where he came from exactly.
I would appreciate and tips or tidbits you can give me.
Thank You,
