Dohren Ivan Richardson
Dohren I. Richardson, 83, of Sperry died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008,
at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
Born Aug. 1, 1924, in Ida Grove, he was the son of Claude and Laura Mead
Richardson. On Dec. 22, 1941, he married Alice Augusta Dethlefsen in Dakota
City, Neb. She died Aug. 24, 1999.
Mr. Richardson worked at Campbell Chain, Central Bag and Burlap, I.A.A.P. and
Ironworkers Union Local No. 557. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 10102 and the
American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II with the Bloody Bucket
Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for Rhineland,
Central Europe and Ardennes Campaigns.
He enjoyed tinkering, inventing, crossword puzzles and watching westerns.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Richardson of Surprise, Ariz., Jerry
Richardson of Ashland City, Tenn., and Larry Richardson of Sperry; four
daughters, Jeannette Richardson of Sperry, Pamela Wagler of Fort Madison, Alice
Wooldridge of Burlington and Karen Noe of Marshalltown; 15 grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two
sisters and an infant son. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at
Lunning Chapel. Military Rites will be at 6:30 p.m., with family receiving
friends until 8 p.m. There will be no funeral service. Burial will be at a later
date. The body will be cremated following the visitation. A memorial has been
established for "Cast Away Disabilities" of Iowa City VA Medical Center
