Rolland L. Fritz,
81, of rural Burlington died at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Blair
House Nursing and Rehab in Burlington. Born May 28, 1930, in Burlington, he was
the son of Walter and Ethel Pfeiff Fritz.
On June 18, 1950, he married Barbara M. Schwerin in Burlington. Mr. Fritz farmed
all his life on the Fritz Family
Century Farm with his Farmall tractor. He attended Brush College and graduated
from Burlington High School in 1949. He was of the Protestant faith. He served
as a 4-H leader. He was a member of Des Moines County Farm Bureau, where he
served as past president, a voting delegate and bowled on their league for many
years. He also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose
and Pork Producers. He was known to produce the best pork around. He collected
hornets' nests and hats. He shot pool for area pool leagues and enjoyed playing
cards and going to "Happy Hour." Survivors include his wife; three sons, Stephen Fritz,
Jeffrey Fritz and
David Fritz,
all of Burlington; one sister, Phyllis Gibbs of Burlington; four grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation
will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, where family
will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Fritz will
be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Erick Swanson
officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials have
been established for Des Moines County Friends of 4-H and HCI Care Services of
Southeast Iowa.
