WALKER FARM CEMETERY

This cemetery is located on what was then the farm of Neal Walker and was being lost through neglect and deterioration. In the cemetery was a stone for Civil War veteran Nelson Bundy. Mrs. Neal Walker, feeling sorry for this soldier, moved his stone to North Walker Cemetery and would put flowers by it each Memorial Day.

Nelson Bundy is listed in the 1879 Des Moines County history, page 455, as being in the 25th Infantry, Co. G. He enlisted July 29, 1862 and was wounded at Lovejoy's Station, Georgia. His Regiment was mustered out of service at Washington, D.C. on June 6, 1865.

The Walker Farm Cemetery is located in the southeast quarter of section 28, Benton Township.

Walker Farm Cemetery has been designated a Pioneer Cemetery by the Des Moines County Pioneer Cemetery Commission.
