Old Danville Cemetery has been designated a Pioneer Cemetery by the Des Moines County Pioneer Cemetery Commission. |
Old Danville Cemetery is located in Danville Township, northeast corner of section 21. It is north and slightly west of 703 South Main, Danville, Iowa. The cemetery is no longer in use.
All that was left in 1967 was a large monument "Jagger" and a pile of broken head and foot stones. One of those headstones was dated 1842. The cemetery is in back of the site of the old Congregational Church, founded June 29, 1839. Founding members of the church are noted. Despite statements made by some individuals, there is no evidence that any remains have been moved out of this cemetery.
