Carl F. Wendt

Farmer

Hazel Green Township

Carl F. Wendt owns and operates a productive and well improved farm of one hundred and twenty acres on section 16. Hazel Green township. His birth occurred in Dubuque, Iowa, on the 23d of September, 1876, his parents being William and Hannah (Werner) Wendt, natives of Mecklenburg, Germany. They emigrated to the United States and first located in Chicago, Illinois, but at the end of a year and eight months removed to Dubuque, Iowa, where they spent four years. On the expiration of that period they settled on a farm near Earlville, in Delaware county, Iowa. To them were born five children, four of whom grew to maturity, as follows: William, who is a resident of Delaware, Iowa; August, whose demise occurred in 1895; Carl F., of this review; and Fred C., living in Hazel Green township.
Carl F. Wendt acquired his education at Earlville, this county, and since putting aside his text-books has devoted his attention to general agricultural pursuits with good success. He owns one hundred and twenty acres of rich and productive land two and a half miles southeast of Ryan and cultivates the same in accordance with the most practical and progressive methods, the well tilled fields annually yielding golden harvests in return for the care and labor which he bestows upon them.
On the 26th of February, 1902, Mr. Wendt was united in marriage to Miss Anna Husmann, a daughter of Harm and Margaret (Wilken) Husmann. Three children have been born to them, namely: William, Lydia and Edward. Mr. Wendt has served in the capacity of school director. He is widely and favorably known throughout the community in which nearly his entire life has been spent and well deserves representation among its substantial agriculturists and enterprising citizens.
