J. Tyrrell is carrying on general farming on a tract of land
situated on section 5, Elk township, and is not only a well known
agriculturist and landowner but also a highly respected citizen
of the county. He was born neat Lockport, in Orleans county, New
York, on the 11th of February, 1851, a son of John arid Sarah (Mustle)
Tyrrell. In May, 1852, the family came to Delaware county, Iowa,

cleared the land of timber and brush and placed it under
cultivation, making a number of other improvements thereon. Part
of the property was sold but was later purchased again and is now
in possession of Mr. Tyrrell of this review. The father engaged

crops. His first wife died in 1862 and he subsequently married
Miss Emeline Harris, who also preceded him in death many years.
He died about 1884 and was buried in a cemetery at Edgewood. He
