E. R. File
is a well-to-do farmer residing on section 32, Milo township, where he owns one
hundred and sixty acres of fertile land. He was born in Delaware county on the
28th of May, 1864, a son of Frederick and Theresa File. His education was
acquired in the public schools and he early learned the most practical methods
of agriculture as he assisted his father in the farm work. Since coming to
mature years he has continued to devote his energies to the cultivation of the
land and his farm on section 32, Milo township, is one of the well improved
farming properties of the county. He is a man of marked enterprise and industry,
and his labors yield him a good annual income.
On the 20th of February, 1892, Mr. File was united in
marriage to Miss Hattie Guthrie, and to this union was born one child, Austie.
The wife and mother passed away in November, 1900, and Mr. File was again
married on the 24th of December, 1903. Miss Ida Halstead, a daughter of W. C.
and Margaret (Kerr) Halstead, becoming his wife. Her father was born in New
York state and her mother was a native of Canada.
Mr. File is a republican in politics and has held a number of
local offices, serving as township trustee and school director. He possesses
laudable public spirit and can always be depended upon to do his share in the
furtherance of any movement which has as its object the material, moral or
social welfare of his community.
