John Bandy

Farmer & Landowner

Richland Twp.

John Bandy, the period of whose residence in Delaware county covers almost a half century, owns a well improved farm comprising one hundred and thirty seven acres on section 21, and a well developed eighty acre tract on section 32, Richland township. He was born in Bohemia on the 6th of January, 1861. His parents emigrated to the United States in 1868 and took up their abode in Delaware county, Iowa, here spending the remainder of their lives.
John Bandy, who was a youth of seven years when he came to America with his parents, remained at home until twenty years of age and then started out as an agriculturist on his own account, cultivating rented land for some time. Subsequently he purchased the property on which he now resides, the land being at that time covered with timber. He cleared the place and erected good buildings thereon and as the years have gone by has made many substantial improvements. His farm embraces one hundred and thirty seven acres of rich and productive land on section 21, Richland township, and he also holds title to eighty acres of improved land on section 32, and in his agricultural operations he has won a gratifying and well merited measure of success. He justly deserves the proud American title of a self made man, for his prosperity is attributable entirely to his well directed labor, untiring energy and good management.
In 1881 Mr. Bandy was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Lantern, a native of Bohemia, by whom he has four children, namely: John, at home: Theodore, who is married; and Emma and William, who are still under the parental roof. Mr. and Mrs. Bandy are widely known throughout the community which has so long been their home and have a very extensive circle of friends.
