Obituary.

THORBURN. - Alice A. ALLEN, second daughter of James and Mary A. ALLEN, was born at Kewanee, Ill., July 22, 1862; died at Lamoni, Iowa, October 4, 1906; aged 44 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was married to George W. THORBURN at Coalville, Iowa, on February 20, 1883 by Justice Robert THORBURN, father of her husband. They have lived at Bozeman, Mont.; Vanmeter, Iowa; Higbee, Mo., and for the last seven years at Lamoni.

Mrs. THORBURN was an untiring worker in the Sunday school and Religio and all church circles. She had been a member of the L.D.S. church from her youth and was never happier than when she was able to do something for its advancement. She earned her own passage money both ways to be able to be with and assist her husband in his missionary work in Glasgow, Scotland.

Her funeral was held at the L.D.S. church Sunday afternoon at half-past two, and was attended by the largest crowd that has assembled here on a similar occasion for years. Her pall bearers were six of her lady friends who had been faithful attendants at her bedside during her last illness. By her arrangement prayer was offered by Elder R. M. Elvin, an obituary prepared and read by Elder H. A. Stebbins, and sermon by Elder John Smith. Her Sunday school and Religio classes attended in a body. A large portion of the congregation followed the remains to their last resting place in Rosehill cemetery. Her husband, a daugher Mrs. Wallace R. FLEMING, father, mother, three brothers, five sisters and a host of friends mourn her departure. Four sons preceded her, all dying in infancy.

We take this method of expressing our thanks and appreciation to those who helped and sympathized with us in the late bereavement of our beloved one. May the Judge of all the earth reward them.

Resolutions of Sympathy.

Whereas, in the death of Sr. Allie THORBURN, the Star of Bethlehem Sunday school and the Zion's Religio-Literary society have sustained a deep loss, and Knowing that the hearts of those who were her nearest and dearest ones are wounded and grieving over their loss,

We express to them our most sincere and affectionate sympathy, and mourn with them in their bereavement, as we also rejoice with them in the firm and comforting assurance that our sister has left the scenes of earth's labors and sorrows but to enter into a life more abundant and complete in the paradise of God.

We shall miss her genial presence in the work of our societies, and her deeds of kindness, her loyal and cheerful service in the cause she loved will ever be with us a pleasant and inspiring memory.

In Memory

Whereas, we, the Patronesses of Graceland College, realize in the death of Mrs. Alice A. Thorburn we have lost a valiant sister-worker, one ever ready and willing to do what her hands found to do. Full of good cheer and happy assurances. Brave of heart and steady of purpose.

We do hereby express our sorrow and offer our sympathy to those to whom she was near and dear by the ties of nature.

Mourning with them, with them we also hope.
