TONEY
At his home residence, Lamoni, Iowa, Wm. R. Toney. He was born in Fleming
Co., Kentucky, March 25, 1822; died at 3 o'clock, a.m. December 4,
1903,
being at his death, 81 years, 8 months and 9 days old. He was married
early
in life and left at his death 8 of 9 children, all attained to majority.
He
moved to Iowa in 1856 and became a citizen of that state. He enlisted
in
the union forces in 1861, served three years, part of the time in the
confinement of that unspeakable horror, Andersonville prison. He survived
the terrors of that prison pen; and was an honored member of the Grand
Army
of the Republic John R. Andrews Post. He was a good citizen, which
means
all father, brother and friend may mean. The funeral services were
conducted by President Joseph Smith [President of the RLDS Church]
at the
request of the family, at the home. The surviving members of the Post
accompanied the remains to Terre Haute where the interment took place,
December 5, at noon
