100-YEAR-OLD JOHN TONEY DIES

Leon, Ia. Services for John Toney, 100, of Leon were scheduled here Friday,

with burial at the Leon Cemetery.

Mr. Toney, a retired farmer who celebrated his 100th birthday last Mar. 10,

died Wednesday in a nursing home here. He spent all his life in Decatur

County and formerly was a justice of the peace.

Surviving are five sons, Glen of West Des Moines; Frank of Lamoni; John and

Forest of Leon, and Leo of Phoenix, Ariz.; four daughters, Mrs. Hope Miller

of Leon; Mrs. Wallace Creveling of Osceola; Mrs. David Wright of Ferndale,

Calif., and Mrs. Ed Cook of Garden Grove, Ore.; 24 grandchildren, 34 great

grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. His wife Alberta died

last spring at the age of 86.

JOHN TONEY

John Wilson Toney, son of William Ray and Aryann Miller Toney, was born

March 10, 1866 near Lamoni, Decatur County, Iowa and died at Westview Acres

September 21, 1966 at the age of 100 years, 6 months and 10 days.

He was married to Florence Horner. One son was born to this union, Frank

Toney of Lamoni. He then married Rose Ferguson. One daughter Golda Cook of

Cottage Grove, Ore. And one son Leon Toney of Phoenix, Ariz. were born to

this union. On February 26, 1903 he married Alberta Thummel. The children

of this union are: Ardis Creveling, Osceola; Forest Toney, Leon; Glen

Toney, West Des Moines; Hope Miller, Leon; Lola Wright, Ferndale, Calif.;

John Toney, Leon; and one child who died in infancy.

Most of his life was spent in farming in around Decatur County. Preceding

him in death were: his wife's; 6 brothers, Jim, Dolph, Will, Sant, Lew, and

Charlie; and 1 sister, Lottie. He is survived by 5 sons, 4 daughters, 1

sister, Nancy Salisbury, Eugene, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 46 great

grandchildren; 4 great, great grandchildren; nieces; nephews, other

relatives and friends.
