BERTHA TONEY
Bertha Catherine Toney was born May 2, 1892, in Harrison County, Missouri,
and died March 8, 1964, in the Decatur County hospital at the age of 71
years, 10 months and 6 days.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ella DeVries; her
sister, Jessie, and brothers Carl, John and Benne.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Frank, and sons, Gerald and
family of Carlisle, Iowa; Jay and family of Lamoni; and Thurman and family
of Des Moines; also her sisters, Sadie priest of Leon; Rhea Fetty of Mt.
Ayr; Mrs. Ada Eversall of Stuart, Iowa; Mrs. Edwin Buckholdt of Seattle,
Wash., and Mrs. Leona West of Beatrice, Neb.; her brother, Arthur DeVries of
Kellerton, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of
neighbors and friends.
Bertha grew to womanhood in the Bloomington community and was united in
marriage to Frank Toney on Feb. 18, 1913. On Feb. 18, 1963, they celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary in their new home in Lamoni.
Bertha was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints and exemplified her faith in God by helping those who were less
fortunate than she. The Lord blessed her with one last burst of strength
two weeks before her passing which was spent doing the things she loved
best-making beautiful decorations for her family and friends which will long
be remembered.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 11 at the RLDS church. Burial
was in Rose Hill cemetery.
