Decatur County Journal

February 7, l907

NANCY J. HARROW, daughter of JOHN W. and SARAH P. HARROW, was born in

Leon, Iowa, February 7, l852. Died at her home one and one-half miles

east of Leon, February 4, l907, lacking but three days of 55 years of

age.

Her early as well as the later years of her life were spent in or near

Leon. But there were a number of years that she lived away from here, a

part of the time being in Canada. In l872 she was united in marriage to

W.J. VALENTINE. To this union eight children were born, six of whom are

living.

August l3, l899, she was united in marriage to M.F. TRUITT, who survives

to mourn her departure. Besides the husband and her six children, her

mother, two brothers and four sisters are living.

Those in attendance at the funeral, her children, are MRS. ANNA CURUS,

of Osceola; MRS. HATTIE PICKLER, of Ottumwa; and ARCHIE VALENTINE, who

lives at home. Her mother, MRS. HARROW, and one sister, MRS. STEVENS,

both of Leon, and one brother, MR. W.I. HARROW, of Nebraska.

When about seventeen years of age, she was converted and united with the

Methodist Church. But a short time before her death she told her

brother that she was willing to go, and felt that she was prepared to

die. For years she had been in poor health. The immediate cause of her

death was cancer. Some four or five weeks ago, she grew much worse and

the disease baffled the best skill of the physician.

She suffered greatly till death came to her release, bringing we trust

not only deliverance but eternal life and joy.
