NORA M. TONEY
Nora M., daughter of Thomas and Mary Adkins Rains, was born April 26, 1886,
in Harrison County, Missouri; and passed away at the Decatur County
hospital, Leon. Iowa at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 13 days.
She with her family in 1888 moved to Iowa and settled in New Buda Township
where she grew to womanhood.
At Lamoni, Iowa on September 10, 1905, she was united in marriage to
Lawrence Toney of Davis City, Iowa. They spent their forty-nine years of
married life on farms in the vicinity of Davis City and Grand River.
To this union ten children were born, three of whom preceded her in death,
one son, Gerald at the age of three months and two daughters Marjorie at the
age of nineteen months and Anna Kyle at the age of thirty years. She was
also preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, one brother and one
grandson, Charles Covey.
Surviving besides her companion are six daughters: Mrs. Florence Baker of
Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Dorothy Rauch, of Grand River, Iowa; Mrs. Gladys Covey,
of Bovill, Idaho; Mrs. Louise Bigley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Bernice
Bryant of Osceola, Iowa; Mrs. Georgia Allen, of Grand River Iowa; and one
son Thaper[Thayer?] L. Toney, of Grand River, Iowa. Besides the Immediate
family she leaves to mourn her passing, six sons-in-law, Loris Baker,
Forrest Ranch, Edgar Covey, Vere Bigley, Raymond Bryant and Don Allen; one
daughter-in-law Mildred Toney, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty- great
grandchildren; two brothers, W. R. Rains, of Buffalo, Oklahoma; Grover Rains
of Ames Iowa, and one sister, Mrs. Etta Maynard of Leon.
Nora was a kind and loving wife and mother, and will be sadly missed by
all -who knew her.
Services were conducted by the Reverend Ernest Vanderpool at the Stewart
Funeral Home on November 13, at 2:00 P. m. Final Resting place was at the
Davis City new cemetery in the family plot beside her three children.
